In some of our most popular past articles, we used our suite of home value tools, along with some renderings, to see how renovation projects can dramatically transform our living spaces. The resulting virtual renovations were always fascinating—and inspiring. We recently applied our skills to a few bathrooms, but here, we would like to present four awesome bedroom renovation ideas for rooms of different sizes and conditions that we have rendered, along with estimations of the renovation costs.

Bedroom renovations with before and after photos

1. The first bedroom renovation is a standard room with an oversized window. The opening was too low, which made the wall unsuitable for placing a bed against, leaving only to two options: placing the bed right beside the door (which does not work well at all, according to feng-shui) or placing it on the wall opposite the door (which gives a direct view of you in bed when anyone opens the door).

We had a lot of bedroom renovation ideas for this room, but the main intentions of our proposal was to use the wall with the door as a built-in wardrobe, creating a very short “corridor” into the actual bedroom area and to raise the window a bit so that wall would be usable, either to place the bed against or to put a piece of low furniture with drawers.

The next part of the renovation plan was to insert a faux ceiling to install some recessed lights and hide the curtain rod, which was needed to black out the window. With some demolition work to do, and some improvements to the HVAC system and trimming, this bedroom renovation showed an estimated cost of $8,562, with a projected equity gain of $4,709

2. Our second example is a medium bedroom (12’ x 14’ or 168 sqft.) remodel with no increase in size. This is a medium scale project with a regular window and a door/window that leads to the garden of this Texas home.

Without replacing the flooring or the windows, we proposed a simple facelift for this bedroom to inject a more contemporary/industrial look. We added a faux-brick texture to one of the walls, some fresh paint, new furniture, and lighting, plus all new trimming. The estimated cost for this dreamy transformation was $4,888.

3. In our third bedroom renovation, we transformed a rather ugly multifunctional room into a spacious, welcoming bedroom with its own study corner. The divider walls that configured the dark and uncomfortable closet were demolished to introduce a wardrobe of contemporary lines and materials, which became part of the wall that would house the desk and extra storage space.

This area was unified under a faux ceiling to better delineate the living space from the sleeping area. By using white paint, clear wooden flooring, a lighter door, beige curtains and some glass, the room gained a whole new language and fresh spatial perception. This complete project of bedroom renovation ideas had an estimated total cost of $6,980.

4. Our fourth and final project was a simple bedroom makeover with little work. All we did for this medium size (12’x14′ = 168 sq.ft.) with no room increase upgrade was change the paint, remove the plinth, replace the carpet with laminate wood flooring, install some shelves and change the window dressing. The estimated cost for this bedroom remodel was only $2,730.
