Summer’s almost gone, which means that we have lovely fall days to look forward to. Lovely sound of crunching leaves, breathtaking fall colors, and pumpkin-spice-everything are certain things which make every fall beautiful. People also look forward to changing their wardrobe and finally being able to wear oversized hoodies, and warm sweaters; and just as you look forward to these outfit changes, you should take care of your house exterior design.

Aim for low maintenance

If you choose to have low maintenance features on the exterior, it means that you will have to work less and manage to save some money for other projects. Not only that, but you will be able to save some time on washing and painting those features, and use that time to bond with your family and friends. You can pick ordinary fiber-cement siding which looks just like wood, but it doesn’t require any of the upkeep an ordinary wood does. It doesn’t shrink over time, but it doesn’t fade once the temperatures start changing. Not to mention that you won’t have to worry about worms, termites, and rot at all. In addition, you can try getting fiberglass windows, because not only fiberglass is stable enough so the seams won’t separate over time, but paint tends to hold up much better than on ordinary vinyl or wood windows.

Think of your porch

Porches are the best because they can be easily redecorated so that they go well with the current season. Providing nice shade in the summer is important, but when fall comes, it’s nice to use it to show your love for this season. Decorate your porch with pumpkins and place dried leaves and twigs in a vase. You don’t even have to carve out your pumpkins if the idea is too Halloween-y for you; you can simply tie patterned ribbons around them, or even spray-paint them so they become even more colourful.

Get the wreaths

Wreaths are the best – they are easy to make and they make your front door, as well as your entire porch, look more inviting. While some people believe that wreaths are best hung in winter, fall wreaths made out of lovely yellow, orange and brown leaves, twigs, and even small pumpkins truly give off some of that fall magic.

You can easily make a grapevine wreath and dress it up even more by adding some fresh apples and nuts in the lower half, and use plain old 3-inch-wide burlap ribbon to hang them on your front door.

Be energy-efficient

Energy-efficient products are incredibly popular today, and for good reason: they do wonders in keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This means that you will save a lot of money, but you will save energy too. If your doors, windows, skylights are correctly installed, you can save a lot of energy in your home.

cool roofs

You can also opt for a cool roof – a roofing system that allows your roof to significantly reduce heat transfer to your house, and to better radiate absorbed solar energy. If you don’t want to change your roofing completely, there are easy ways to cool your own roof.

Get a cozy chill out space

Just because summer’s over, it doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy some quiet evenings and afternoons in your garden. Having a chill out space in your own backyard can make you feel like you can take a small vacation anytime you want. If your area gets a lot of rain, you can ensure that your outside sitting area stays dry by installing an OZTech retractable pergola.

A nice retractable roof will allow you to enjoy some nice time outside by the fire, wrapped in a soft blanket, even if it’s raining a bit. Make sure you get plenty of spare blankets and glasses of wine for your friends who will fall in love with your chill out spot just as you did.

Your home’s exterior goes a great way to show who you are, because it’s a great reflection of homeowner’s personal style. Try to express yourself through your home’s exterior, but try to make your house compliment the surrounding community. It’s lovely to be unique and stand out, but that doesn’t mean that your house should be completely different from the rest of your neighbourhood.
