Our architect’s recommendations for a kid’s room
First and foremost, before decorating a kid’s room, decide on its theme. It should be personal so that the kids’ individuality grows and develops and they feel a sense of belonging.
The smart way to go about your kids’ bedroom interior design is to keep it flexible so that it’s easier to change the style as your child reaches different age groups. Plus, it’s financially feasible too.
A good way to keep the kids’ room design adaptable is by painting the walls a neutral color or having just an accent wall instead of painting all walls a bold color. Another way is to use versatile furniture that can grow with your child. For example, a bunk bed that can be later kept as two single beds or a study table that can be used as a bench as the child grows up.
It’s important that you use colors very carefully – avoiding bold hues that can be tiring. Cooler or softer colors, especially in the study or play areas, will help with your kids’ mental as well as physical well-being.
Also, the lighting should be less and warmer in the rest area, and more and brighter for play and study spaces.
Other considerations
Avoid too much natural light as that can worsen the quality of your children’s sleep. Always use blinds or curtains to block exterior light when not required.

However, the architect has utilized every space differently – with different strategies of functionality, furniture, and the number of beds.

Ideal for two children from ages 4 to 12 years old
Dimensions: 14.76ft x 10.83ft.
Area: 10.83ft²
Height: 9.19ft
The room is accessed through a sliding door so as to utilize the space to its maximum. All the room furniture is arranged in such a way that it leaves the play area in the middle.
There are two beds in an “L” shape, against the wall.
To the right of the bed, there’s a built-in desk unit on the upper wall, an open shelf for a television, storage on the right wall, and a closet that borders the three walls in a “U” shape.
This type of room can be on any floor of the house, but it’s preferable that it be on the same floor as the room of the parents or guardians.
The size of the beds and furniture can be adapted to the next stage of growth up to 12 years. However, the type of room decoration can keep changing.
Interior design
The enveloping headboard of the two beds, located where the two beds meet is easily one of the most interesting parts of the room decor.
The interior design is based on an abstract natural environment. There’s a beautiful wooden frame in the shape of a mountain that’s illuminated with some good lighting. Our architect recommends using colors on the closet and the furniture in such a way that they make the shape of the silhouette of a valley.
Interestingly, the wall decor depicts a sun (protrudes from the wall by 0.07ft), clouds (2.46ft x 1.18ft for the large one and 1.97ft x 0.95ft for the small one), and a tree with a trunk and branches. All these wall structures are made with molding to create a 3D effect.
The ceiling incorporates circular LED lamps. And, the pendant lights on top of the bed area have warm lights hanging in a beautiful way.
Room flooring
Our architect recommends wooden floors, round carpets, and cushions – according to the room design, the colors, and the tones of the textiles. This is where the children can play comfortably and interact with audiovisual equipment or toys.
Room lighting
LED lights to provide good ambient light – both direct as well as indirect lighting. There are lights hidden behind the furniture, cabinets, and the study desk. It’s a good idea to avoid excess light so that the children feel comfortable and calm in their space.
A 4.92ft x 3.94ft window, over the desk area, lets in natural light. Interestingly, there’s a warm light behind the sun to depict its rays. So it’s not only decorative but also serves a purpose. This intimate warm light will help when you want to read stories to the children.
Room furniture
The light-colored wooden beds measure 6.56ft x 3.28ft x 1.77ft and have six light-blue drawers for storage at the bottom of the 1.67ft x 0.98ft mattress. The bed headboards reach 3.28ft high while the width of the bed’s sides measures 3.28ft. The two single beds form the letter “L” and are in different directions.
Room decor
Our architect has used cushions, sheets, blankets, and pillows with contrasting textures and patterns – mostly lines and chevron patterns. Soothing colors such as blue, green, turquoise, grey, and beige have been used to give the room a calming vibe. Do note the cushions and throw pillows in animal shapes – such as a zebra, koala, and an elephant – and a house and a cloud.
The entire decor, including the sky blue wooden decorative screen over the beds, seems to complement the landscape theme.
A cohesive color palette is maintained through each of the elements. There are medium gray curtains, light tone wood floors (could be laminate floors or hardwood), and white walls. The same hues can be used regardless of whether it’s a boy’s bedroom or a girl’s bedroom.
Storage solutions
The room features built-in furniture such as a desk (5.58ft x 1.97ft x 2.30ft), storage, and a closet in light-colored wood forming a silhouette of the mountains and sky. The storage cabinet and shelves measure 10.83ft x 1.97ft, with two corner shelves of 1.97ft x 1.97ft. There’s sufficient space in the center to keep the TV. blow, there are five closed cabinets.

The room is accessed through a hinged door measuring 2.95ft. On the left side, a closet of 1.97ft x 6.33ft rests. It leads to a desk in the shape of an “L”. The study desk measures 5.58ft x 4.43ft x 1.97ft. There are two 3.28ft windows on the wall next to the beds.
Here, the bed headboard occupies the entire width of a wall (10.83ft x 0.33ft) and is the focal point of the design. The two single beds measuring 2.95ft x 6.89ft are arranged with night tables of 1.48ft x 1.31ft on the sides of the beds as well as in between.

Ideal for 4 to 12-year-olds.
The entrance to the room is through a hinged door measuring 2.95ft. On its right side, there’s a closet. Basically, the furniture occupies the perimeter of the room – leaving an intermediate space for play. For instance, the two beds (3.94ft x 7.22ft) are attached to the wall in order to utilize the corners in the best way. Both beds have a border on the sides of the wall of 0.33ft, as a backrest. That way, you can decorate the beds as if they were a sofa. They make for a good spot to sit when the kids have friends over.
There are two desks of 1.80ft x 3.61ft each – one next to the entry door and another between the beds.
On the right side, there’s a storage shelf measuring 1.97ft x 4.92ft. The upper part of the shelves is 0.98ft x 4.92ft and has a space in the center for a flat-screen TV and video games.

Ideal for a 4 to 12-year-old.
Upon entering the room, there’s a sofa on the right side with three seats (2.62ft x 6.40ft) and a desk opposite shaped like an “L” measuring 4.43ft. Above, there’s space for a flat-screen TV, with shelves having a depth of 0.98ft.
Next to the desk, we find the 3.28ft x 6.58ft bed between two bedside tables measuring 1.97ft x 1.97ft. The closet is about 1.97ft. All in all, there’s good space for circulation in the room.

Ideal for a 4 to 12-year-old.
The room – accessed through sliding doors – is visually divided into three functional areas: the storage, bed area, and desk.
There are two floor-to-ceiling shelves of 3.60ft x 1.31ft and a desk area in the center (3.60ft x 2.30ft). The desk is big enough to place a computer screen of about 1.97ft – 2.96ft.
At the center, there’s a bed of 3.94ft x 7.22ft with two nightstands (1.97ft x 1.97ft). It’s located between two windows of 3.44ft each.
You can easily accommodate shelves, a 7.22ft x 1.97ft closet, a flat-screen TV, and a built-in sofa of about 3.60ft x 1.97ft.

Ideal for a child or two children of 4 to 12 years.
This type of room can be used for a single child or for siblings – depending on your requirement. You can place a single bed with an extra sliding bed or a double bed.
The room is accessed through a sliding door of 2.95ft. It’s visually divided into two areas: the bed of 3.28ft x 7.22ft and an elongated piece of furniture measuring 3.94ft x 1.48ft, which serves as both a bedside table and a sofa of 5.74ft x 1.97ft.
You can place a carpet at the foot of the bed to create a play area. There are two closets embedded in the walls, with a storage cabinet measuring 5.25ft x 1.97ft. There’s good space for a television set or games, and two puffs for seating.

Ideal for 8 to 12-year-olds.
This floor plan is for two to three children. You can place as many as three beds to five beds (two beds or two L-shaped bunk beds, with one extra sliding bed for visitors).
The entrance to the room is through a swinging door of 2.95ft. A desk measuring 4.92ft x 6.23ft x 1.97ft rests on the right and upper wall – forming the letter “L”. there are two windows of 3.28ft each. And, along the side of the right wall, there are shelves of 0.98ft x 6.23ft.
The beds too are placed so as to form an “L”. The room has two closets of 5.25ft x 1.97ft each. The space left free for movement and play without the sliding bed is 5.24ft x 9.51ft.

Ideal for 8 to 12-year-olds.
This type of room can accommodate two to four children. You can place two to four beds (two beds or two bunk beds of 7.38ft x 3.28ft each).
The model is totally symmetrical – thanks to the central access that allows for a mirror distribution. What you get is the letter “C” by the placement of the furniture.
You can access the room through a sliding door of 2.95ft. The walls on each side of the door support closets measuring 5.58ft x 1.97ft.
The desks rest on each side wall, perpendicular to the closet and in between the beds and the closets. The shelves of 0.98ft x 5.58ft provide good storage.
Plus, there are two windows of 3.28ft each. The central space for circulation and play is about 7.97ft x 4.92ft.

Ideal for 8 to 12-year-olds.
You can place two to five beds (two beds or two bunk beds attached to a wall and a folding bed).
Like the previous model, the access, the windows, and the closets are maintained in the same way and there’s symmetrical distribution of the room furniture.
The beds, measuring 3.94ft x 6.89ft, are located at each lateral side of the room in front of the closets – with their backs to the windows.
In the center of the two beds, there’s a desk of 6.89ft x 1.97ft. The remaining free play space is about 4.59ft x 6.89ft and the space between the beds and the closet is 1.97ft.
