In 2017, subway tiles are used for an ‘unexpected look’, like in a farmhouse styled kitchen. Bobby Berk behind Bobby Berk Home advocates adding a dark grout to make the tiled background more graphic and more resilient to dirt.

This trend originated in higher spheres of the market, and after lingering for some time seems to have trickled down and attracted a lot of followers. Originating in Europe, the huge popularity of this natural material dominated the Coverings 2016 industry show in Chicago. Marble is especially effective when paired with wood and metal. Young Huh, a prominent Vogue’s interior designer says that marble and brass trend is likely to continue being dominant in both kitchens and bathrooms, as a bold combination of something natural and pure and something industrial and hard, yet glamorous.

Hardcore Antique is out

The long-lasting trend of pairing antiques with other pieces from the same period has finally gone with the wind. The time of strictly period-designed rooms, let alone homes, is gone. Warren Sheets behind Warren Sheets Inc. says that while it is great to have a certain era as a starting point, it is more aesthetically intriguing to create a look that tastefully mixes the elements from the past and the present.

If anything can be said about 2017, stainless steel kitchen homeware is the new look. Bold enough, but not too aggressive, a stainless steel dishwasher is a perfect choice for a modern kitchen. This material complements your marble countertops and is very easily maintained. The shine of this type of appliances will preserve that new kitchen feel for years to come.

Tough as nails

Nailhead details have been around since the dawn of upholstering, but now they are being used in whole new ways. It even goes beyond traditionally upholstered pieces like chairs and lounges and is used with storage chests, credenzas, and even lamp bases. Bolder designers use nail heads to create decorative Hellenic or oriental patterns on pieces of furniture as well.

Brushed metal no more

Just as sterling silver jewelry is being replaced with gold, burnished stainless steel and nickel surfaces and accents of an industrial look seem to be losing their popularity, giving way to shiny warm metals like brass, bronze, and gold.
